The Aussie Outback Party is a 28pp picture book written for 2 - 5 year
olds. The story is told in rhyming verse and features iconic Australian
animals. The chosen rhyming scheme has an almost sing song quality
designed to engage the listener and encourage emerging readers.
Full page, colour illustrations complement the story and engage the
attention of younger children, particularly with the "spot the emu"
function (Erik the emu appears on every page, often hiding, and younger
children delight in "finding" him).
The author, Megan Bartlett-Horne, holds a Grad Dip Education (Griffith
University, 1991) and a Bachelor of Business Communication (QUT, 1990).
Drawing on her experiences as a teacher and a mother and combining her
love of Australian animals and poetry, she has created an engaging story
with a rollicking rhythm.
The illustrator, Sue "Penny" Horne, has been drawing her favourite
Aussie animal, the emu, for more than a decade. After 20+ years of 4WD
adventures through the Australian bush, she has a wealth of mental
imagery stored. Penny uses a combination of pencil, ink and watercolours
to bring the story to life with each full page illustration.
We are currently in preproduction for our next book "Bump in the Night",
which examines night time noises (and shows how they are readily
explained and not scary at all). Bump in the Night is also told in
rhyming verse and is beautifully illustrated. A sneak preview of Bump in
the Night will be posted on this website in late April 2008.
